What You Need to Know About Computers
What will Your Student Learn?
We will use REMC's 21 Things for Students curriculum and will cover the following units:
Class Participation:
Class Participation means taking an active role in learning. This is a "hands on" class. This means students will be required to film, record, edit, research, etc. using technology and therefore must participate in class. Students will be expected to use class time effectively. Failure to use class time effectively will affect their grade as they will not be able to work on most of their assignments at home. Therefore, they must use class time to complete their projects. If a student is absent is their responsibility to make arrangements to complete the missing work for homework, during lunch or academic time.
Class Expectations:
This year we will be operating under the motto of "BE AWESOME!" This means that students will be expected to SOAR in the computer lab. This is what our school rules look like in the computer lab. Click HERE for more information for it means to SOAR and please review this info with your student. Unfortunately, failure to follow these expectations in the lab may result in loss of computer/internet privileges, referral to the office, or permanent loss of computer access. Students' citizenship grade will be based on their if they exhibit soar behavior.
Required Materials/Tardies:
Required Materials: Device to film with (phone, iPad, etc.), free Google Drive App on personal device, agenda, pencil/pen.
Students are expected to bring required materials to class every day. Failure to do so will result in a tardy to return to their locker. Three tardies will result in a detention which is a school policy.
Mobile Devices and Google Drive Accounts
Students may use their personal mobile device for recording in this class. These devices are to be used ONLY for learning purposes. They are not to be used for texting, social media, taking photos, checking emails, posting, or any activity other than the one outlined by Mrs. Winters. Students are never to photograph/record Mrs. Winters or any student and post it to internet.
The school district provides each student with a Google Drive account for cloud storage. Students will be required to use their Google Drive to share video footage and assignments. Students will need to install the Google Drive App on their mobile device with your permission. This app is free. In this way students will transfer video footage from their device to the school computer.
Grading Assessment :
Students will receive points for the completion of assignments and projects. Students will be graded on project requirement, effort and a short written reflection. The larger the project the more points it will be worth. All grades will be posted on PowerSchool.
On Class Room Technology...
Every day students will use classroom technology. Students are expected to use this technology safely and respectfully. They will be asked out to sign this technology in and out and return it in the condition it was given to them. Students will be held responsible for any damage to the technology while in their possession.
On Personal Mobile Devices...
Mrs. Winters class is a yellow zone. This means that students may use their phones/devices with permission or learning activities. They are not to be used for texting, social media, taking photos, checking emails, recording video, etc. In the event that students uses their mobile device/cell phone improperly Mrs. Winters will enforce the school rule of confiscating the device and the student's parent/guardian will need to pick up the device from the office. Students will also will not be allowed to bring their phone to class ever again (seriously never).
